 With Ethos still absent, Morg travels on with their daughter Sherez in the hope of finding Nepulus. When they come across a sect of merfolk, Morg is delighted to learn Nepulus is a part of the group. Too excited to contain the news she tells him how all their problems are solved because she and her daughter released plankton which will surely allow life to flourish. Nepulas, however, does not share in her enthusiasm and disappears without explanation. On his return his news is dire. Forget the diminishing numbers in plankton, she may have caused their annihilation. Chrythus has caught up with them. He can taste the Aquithus magic Sherez bears, and with it is taunted by images of Amberline, the love lost to him. He wants her, yearns to end his life and be with her. He will not fail a second time. Chewlla has found a way to swim around freely. A shell was taken from her to allow her to do so, and she wants it back. She will stop at nothing to rid the earth of those who betrayed her, sending her to a life of solitude. An army is what she seeks above all else, and she may just have found it.
